The 21st Century has opened with a variety of new global security challenges, characterized by instability, intra- and inter- state violence, influential non-state actors, fluid power relationships and by wide disparities in the traditional political, economic and military capabilities of nation-states. The aim of the series is to publish original and fresh analyses of emerging issues in international security. It seeks to anticipate and articulate new directions for the field and to offer alternative frameworks for understanding increasingly complex and interrelated global security problems. The series defines a security continuum broadly to include national security, internal security, human security, and international security. Books in the series will address these issues from a multi-disciplinary, policy-oriented perspective, with a strong focus on the integration of “hard” and “soft” security issues.
