The New World
Gardinier, Suzanne
Winner of the 1992 Associated Writing Programs' Award Series in Poetry
Suzanne Gardinier is the author of Usahn: Ten Poems and a Story (1990). In 1992 she was awarded a Lannan Literary Fellowship, which "recognizes writers of distinctive literary merit." She lives in Sag Harbor, New York.
“A great poem of this end of our century. It is masterfully structured in recurring themes and voices which build on and off each other. Gardinier is above all a poet whose language and images are completely integrated so that in Keats's words, every rift is laden with ore. I found this a thrilling poem to read.”—Adrienne Rich

“Suzanne Gardinier’s The New World is defiantly a book.”—David R. Slavitt, DLB Yearbook, Year in Poetry, 1994

“Intelligent, lyrical, a wonderful whole.”—Lucille Clifton
